The giving spirit was amazing with these three organizations!  We also have some businesses/ organizations who provided critical services for free to help us in this campaign.  They are:

Thanks to all who contributed and helped out the kids of central Maine! We look forward to working with you all again next year!!!

In 1947 the wife of Major Bill Hendricks stationed in Los Angeles California made a home-made Raggedy Ann doll and asked her husband to donate it to a local charity for a needy child.  The Major was unable to find any such charity in the area. The reserve unit decided that this was not right and began the collection of toys for the needy children of their neighborhoods.  The following year, the Commandant of the Marine Corps determined that all of the 74 Marine reserve units in the country at that time should participate in this program, and it was dubbed Toys for Tots.  So moved by what the Marines were doing, Walt Disney, the first major contributor to the program, created the now famous train logo that is the identifying icon of the Toys for Tots program.

Since then, your United States Marines have worked diligently to provide toys for needy children in your neighborhoods. This year is no different! The Marines of Southern and Central Maine are looking forward to supporting our state again in the 2012 Toys For Tots Campaign.
